Hello everyone. I just read Aidil's post and realised that I had neglected the blog! A short update on AIT and what we have been up to. We are all well. Kai spent a month on a curatorial residency in New York in February, and I was in San Francisco in March for a week with curating students from the California College of Art. Aidil, Rupesh is there and we get to know each other well. he plans to be back in Malaysia over the summer I believe. I heard from Marie that some of you met up at Transmediale in Berlin. We are still working on the final publication - as its bi-lingual and rather complex with different writers, it is taking longer than expected...but please be patient...it will emerge. I have been blogging since October 2004...inspired by Joi Ito's talk, and to date I think around 10,000 people have visited my pages. Please have a look if you have not done so already: Tactical Museum Tokyo is warming up now, and Daikanyama looks green. I hope you are all engaged in whatever you are up to and happy. all for now. roger AIT

If you guys would like to provide aid or donate, you could log onto this website http://tsunamihelp.blogspot.com/ . I am in no way affiliated to this site, but just wanted to get the word around. May the people affected by this tragedy keep their hope and faith alive...
Hello all. We at AIT are all well...just about recovered from the camp. Thank you all again for coming and making it happen. Just to keep you updated - we are now working on the camp report and publication. We hope to make something which can also be read by people who did not experience the camp and have an interest in art and new media issues. More as it comes together. all the best, roger
After experiencing tokyo art camp 2004 ar some questions to be discussed, I think
Main question is what is art for, and this would make clear what is art. let`s cross the thin red line. In my opinion, art is something more than a genuine idea, or making something whichs is interesting using the latest technologies.
What about the not-known-something-going-on of Art. Was 'the auriga' a sculpture made by the lastes technolgies?. Was a genuine idea?. Or something else. Was the correct and genuine use of latest techs which made it, or was the missusing of those technologies. How can you explain the marvel of 'the auriga'?
Art is something between. I think that the vehicle of art is the feeling. But is somethin between in a bigger meaning. Is something between because in it happens the conection which makes everything clear in the darkness. Is endless in meaning, but completely meaningfull. This is the magic of the art, I think.
Art is just comunication? So everything is art. Structuralism says that eveything is comunciatuion, bacause everything is swiching on and swiching off. Art is just an opinion, so on television you can find many artist on suit, giving opinions all the time, about any subject. Is clear that art has something of opinion and subjetivity, but the sense of this opinion is universal, and as a result edless and meaningfull (again). That's why i say that art is about God (meaning The-All), only The-All can be objetctive, 'cause evey other thing would be just a point of view of this Totalily (All).
When I see many media art works, I see that they finish on itselves. The meaning is an opinion. It is such a clear opinion that is completely dark in the end. In those art works (for giving them a name) there is not more than what you see, there is not any briging-to-light-from-not-being.
An this briging-to-light-from-not-being is, in my opinion, artist's task. Just to make habitable our world, trying to make sense of our everyday life conncting ourselvels with The-All.
